Dropped Into Another World V3C44

Chapter 44 – Special Investigation Unit Vice Commander Pisce

– Special Investigation Unit Vice Commander Pisce’s POV-

Is that Abar and Rashi?

What’s going on?

「What are you doing?」

I called out to the two men who were talking in front of the tent with serious expressions on their faces. What’s going on?

I looked at Abar and he had a look on his face that he usually doesn’t have.

Something definitely happened.

What should I do?

These two have lower ranks than me but they are my senpais.

They each have the ability to handle the order on their own.

However, I feel that Abar’s behavior is a little different from before.

Rashi is pretending to be normal but he seems confused.

I think we got to know each other quite a bit because we were assigned to the same unit but, how far should I get to know them?

Should I talk to them a little more before deciding?

「Did something happen?」

This is the first time Abar blatantly averted his gaze.

At times like this, it’s probably a good idea to wait and see….

「What is Vice Commander Pisce doing?」

Now, should I go with Rashi’s story?

Maybe this is the chance for this special investigation unit to change.

Though it’s only my hunch.

「Ah, I thought Horfe and Mafe are overworked so I thought I’d limit the number of kills to one per person.」

「「Huh?」」

Well, there’s no way we can do one kill per person in a chaotic battle.

However, in order to change the status quo, even though I think it’s impossible, I’ll just say what I have to say.

Anyway, that’s what we are currently talking about after all.

Everyone pushes their job to Horfe and Mafe because they are beastkins and everyone’s acting like it’s normal.

That’s the problem. No one thought it shouldn’t be the case.

On the contrary, even those two, who are being forced to do the other’s jobs, have accepted it like it’s normal.

And the same can be said for the commander.

I want to change that.

I understand that the amount of work is different given everyone has different abilities.

However, the work that goes to the commander, Horfe, and Mafe were not distributed depending on their ability.

The job for low-level people was given to them just because they are beastkins.

That shouldn’t happen.

It is impossible to change everything but I want the special investigation unit to be able to do it at least.

That’s my goal as the vice commander.

「Or maybe limit it to two kills per group. Anyway, I thought of limiting those two guys a little bit and letting the other guys work. Speaking of which, is there anyone here who isn’t feeling well?」

I handed the documents to Abar and he observed them carefully.

He is puzzled but a little different than before.

Is this something to be expected?

「What do you mean? They worked hard today too, didn’t they?」

I thought Rashi was feeling uncomfortable too but maybe it’s just my imagination.

I stared at Rashi.

When our gazes met, he looked away, perhaps feeling awkward.

I see. He’s aware but doesn’t want to admit it.

I scoffed at his attitude.

Don’t be too spoiled. I won’t let that happen.

「Haven’t you noticed? When you team them up with Horfe and Mafe, the tough job will be given to those two.」

To be precise, they were tasked with jobs that suit their abilities but they still do a lot of work that the other members of the team should have done.

I’m sure I won’t need to explain the details.

「「Eh?」」

Rashi and Abar reacted at the same time but their expressions are different.

Abar seems to have started to notice.

After being surprised, he showed an expression that he had noticed something.

As for Rashi, I guess that’s something that needs to be pointed out to him.

I looked at them then turned my gaze to Abar.

「You don’t seem to be overlooking it. It’s more like you haven’t noticed.」

I could feel Rashi shaking his head.

But let’s ignore that for now.

「……sorry.」

「There’s no point in apologizing to me.」

Though I’m sure even if he apologizes to Horfe and Mafe, his apology won’t reach them.

It’s the same with the commander.

The responsibility for making them like that lies with humans.

From the time I was born, I’ve taken it as normal to push all troublesome things to beastkins.

However, that has to change.

The only reason humans are able to live in Emperors Kingdom is because the beastkins gave them a reprieve.

If things don’t change, humans may even be excluded from the Emperors Kingdom.

「Vice Commander Pisce, when did you notice?」

I look at Abar and he’s staring at me.

He was talking differently than usual.

「What?」

I know what Abar is asking but I dare ask.

I want to hear it from his own mouth.

「That commander and the others are still stuck in the past?」

Judging from Abar’s expression, it seems like he has the will to face it.

Is it because of experience?

I couldn’t face it right away.

When I noticed it, I gasped as bad as Rashi’s been doing now.

When I looked at Rashi, I could see that he was in agony.

「They are not the only ones who were trapped in the past, are they?」

Both of them responded to my words.

「That’s okay. As for your question, I felt uncomfortable when we arrived at the village attacked by the mixtures.」

When he did all the work that was supposed to be done by me, I realized something is not right and I even feel that I don’t like it.

At first, I questioned how little work he is turning over to me.

Then, I felt uncomfortable with the fact that commander was cleaning up my work so I told commander to let me do my job.

That time, commander asked me “Why? Isn’t it always like this?” which stunned me as he looked at me with a confused expression.

Since when had I turned my work over to the commander?

Why didn’t I notice it?

I wonder what I should do now that I know what’s happening. Then, I thought, we are all still stuck in the past.

Then, what should I do?

Since it’s a mistake, shouldn’t it be corrected?

It took me quite a while to come up with that answer.

「I’m thinking about what I can do to change the status quo.」

I think it can be changed by taking a few steps.

It might take time since there are only a few people like me.

However, if we don’t do anything, nothing will change.

「I will help. It might be wrong for me to say this since I have never noticed until now.」

Abar’s words brought a smile to my face.

He has been through a lot so he’ll be a good help.

「I’ll help you too but, well, in my case, I guess I’ll probably start with myself.」

I turned my gaze to Rashi and saw that he had made up his mind.

This is good.

「What do you think I should do?」

Sorry for asking immediately but, do you have any good ideas?

I’ve been thinking about a lot of things but nothing’s working.

「Well, why don’t you ask the commander to reduce his workload?」

I shook my head to Abar’s suggestion.

「I’ve already informed commander but he just tilted his head in confusion. I’m taking the liberty of looking at the papers on commander’s desk right now and securing them for me. However, it’s pretty tough because if I check them a little late, he has already finished them all.」

It only started a few days ago though.

「I see.」

Abar knitted his brows.

「Wouldn’t it be quicker to deal with if we, humans, were made aware of it?」

I nodded in agreement with Rashi.

The point is, we don’t give them what we are supposed to do.

However, how are we going to make them realize?

「Even if we gather everyone and explain it to them, they might not get the message.」

As Rashi says, it can be interpreted in such a bad way if we only convey it with words.

No one wants to think that they are treating their comrades as slaves.

「Why don’t we meet everyone individually and ask them to answer our questions?」

I was confused with Abar’s suggestion.

Have them answer our questions?

「That would allow them to reflect on their actions.」

I see.

That might be a good idea.

「Okay, let’s try that.」

I don’t think this alone will solve the problem but it’s a start.
