Chapter 32 – Repairing Cracks

The giant diving beetle no longer wants to fight. It’s looking at us, frightened.

The turbidness in its eyes seems to be lesser….or at least that’s how I feel.

Maybe it’s just my wishful thinking but it looks that way….

However, if I don’t do something, it might get affected by that turbidness again.

I want to do something about it but, what exactly should I do…..

「Since turbid magic power entered its body…..it’s now affected by a third party force.」

Ah! Since it’s in its body, can’t I just let it out?

Yeah, that’s right.

It’s that simple.

Now, the question is how.

 

I glance at the giant diving beetle.

When our gazes met, it started to tremble.

I’m a little shocked even though it wasn’t me who kicked it.

No, this isn’t the time to be shocked.

 

Hmmm, assuming that the turbidity is like a bacteria, I imagined bacterias inside the body being eliminated….

There is no point if the things that have been eliminated are scattered in the air.

Because of that, I imagined them being gathered and forming one solid piece.

This will keep them from scattering.

Alright. I was able to imagine something.

 

As I approach the giant diving beetle, it shakes its head with teary eyes.

Why do I feel like I’m bullying it?

「I’m not going to attack you, okay?」

Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake.

….Haa, I give up.

「I’m going to remove something that came inside your body so don’t move.」

When I touch the giant diving beetle with my hand, it shakes violently.

I can only give it a wry smile.

「Removal」

The giant diving beetle glowed and I heard something fall with a thud.

Looking at it, I see a black object.

It was probably the mass of something that I had removed.

「Kyuuuu」

When I heard a cute squeak, I looked into its eyes and saw the original, clear, and beautiful eyes of the giant diving beetle.

I’m glad.

And even though it met my gaze, it is not trembling!

「By the way, how do you breathe? Do you have lungs and not gills?」

I wonder if it has lungs since it doesn’t look like it’s suffering even though it’s not underwater.

「Your lordship, it doesn’t breath via lungs but it doesn’t breath via gills either.」

「Huh?」

I can only tilt my head after hearing Light Blue’s comment.

Was there any other way to breathe?

….skin breathing?

No, this one doesn’t have skin either….so, what?

「It doesn’t breathe in the first place.」

「Eh!」

It’s not breathing?

I look at the giant diving beetle.

Come to think of it, it doesn’t have a nose…..

No, I don’t know where the nose of a diving beetle is.

I mean, does it have one?

It’s not breathing but it’s alive?

I stare at the giant diving beetle.

It’s moving alright.

「It’s a living thing, isn’t it?」

「Of course it is.」

Good, it’s a living creature.

「Then, what kind of being is this little guy?」

I find it weird for something to live without breathing.

「It’s a being of magical power. It will suddenly be born one day. It will continue to live by absorbing magical power around it.」

So, you’re saying that this little guy is a lump of magic power?

I gently reach out my hand and touch the giant diving beetle.

Yeah, it’s true. I can feel magic power throughout its body.

This is….similar to my magic power.

Is it because my magic power is drifting around the forest?

「Normally, it is rare for a lump of magic power to have a will but….」

I tilted my head hearing Light Blue’s words.

All the creatures in this lake seemed to have their own wills.

When the amoebas splash water on me, some of the other creatures like this one join the fun.

「Perhaps the magic holy soul is different in this world because it was born from your lordship’s magical power.」

Magic holy soul?

「A magic holy soul is born of magic power, has no will, and is susceptible to the magic power of the world it’s in.」

Magic holy soul is born because of magic power…..is it really alright to call it magic holy soul then?

Hearing Light Blue’s explanation, the one eyes also look at the giant diving beetle curiously.

Seeing the diving beetle being slightly frightened looked adorable.

「Don’t scare it too much.」

「Yeah, it’s okay.」

No, it doesn’t look okay.

It’s definitely scared…..

But still, it normally doesn’t have a will?

I stared at the giant diving beetle.

It’s being poked by the one eyes and it looks like it doesn’t like it.

It has a will on its own alright.

「Stop that. It’s going to cry.」

Its eyes are already teary from being poked by the one eyes on both sides.

I felt sorry for it so I stopped them and it happily snuggled up to me.

Visually, it looks like a giant diving beetle.

It’s almost reaching my waist.

「Are all the creatures in the lake magic holy souls?」

Or are they different creatures?

「No, it’s very rare for a magic holy soul to be born.」

In this lake, aside from this one, there’s another one. The rest are monsters that live in water.

Light Blue peeks into the water but it seems that the turbidity is worse than before and what’s below can no longer be seen.

「They were monsters huh.」

So, both the water strider-like and lobster-like creatures are monsters?

They were a little different from the monster I imagined.

「Is the other magic holy soul as big as this little guy?」

「No, it’s smaller. The magic holy soul will resemble the first thing it sees when it is born.」

Wow, that’s amazing.

Does that mean there’s no unique form of magic holy soul?

「Kyuuu」

「What’s the matter?」

The magic holy soul looks at the lake.

Right.

I was trying to fix the crack.

I had completely forgotten about that because of the giant diving beetle.

 

I look at the images sent by the drones.

As usual, the crack is full of black muddy water.

Crack….I’ve fixed cracks in walls before using mortar.

I wonder if I could fix it by transforming magic power into something like a mortarand applying it to the crack?

Hmmm, I don’t think I can answer that no matter how much I’ll think about it.

All right, let’s just stick magic power like a mortar…..

「Gyuuu」

I suddenly heard a pained squeak while I was looking at the screen. Then, I saw a lobster-like creature crawling out of the lake.

The water in the lake made a splashing sound as it flopped and flailed in agony.

「Is it suffering from the turbid magic power too?」

Let’s clean up the water in this lake before fixing the crack.

It will get turbid again but at least it will buy time.

I kneel and put my hand on the lake.

I imagined the turbidity that is mixed in the water of the lake gathering and solidifying.

The magic I just imagined will be enough to remove the turbidity on the body of those creatures living in the lake.

「Gather and harden. Removal.」

The lake and the lobster-like creature that crawled out of it are enveloped in light.

The light quickly disappears and all that remains is the lake, which is now clear and clean. The lobster-like creature looks around curiously.

「Are you alright? Are you still in pain?」

It flicked its tail a few times in response to my words and then, quickly returned to the lake.

Good.

However, I guess I’ll have to do something about the crack soon.

「Alright, let’s fill that crack immediately.」

Ah, the things I gathered and solidified….is at the bottom of the lake.

「Your lordship, what’s the matter?」

Light Blue looks at me curiously as I knit my brows while looking at the lake.

「I have gathered the turbid magic power into one solidified object but it looks like it sank to the bottom of the lake.」

「Kyuu」

The giant diving beetle squeaks and dives into the water.

Did it dive back because the water is no longer turbid?

「I’ll pick it up later.」

I imagined it solidifying so I don’t think that the turbid magic will ooze out.

If I pick it up later using magic, everything should be okay.

For now, let’s fix the crack that’s causing it.

「It’s better to fix the cracks while looking at the screen.」

In the crack projected on the screen, I plan to trap the magic power by filling it with magic power transformed into mortar.

Since I have experience in doing it, imagining it is a simple job.

The rest will be the turbid magic power around the crack.

…..let’s gather and solidify it like what I did in the lake.

「Alright. Mortar repair, gather and harden.」

With the casting of magic, something falls in the crack on the screen and that something stretches along the crack.

「Is that blackish thing the magic that transformed into a mortar-like state….」

The cracks are being filled.

The air is turbid because of the turbid magic power that overflowed so it’s hard to see the depths but it seems like I’ve successfully done it.

When I approached the screen to take a closer look, the image projected on the screen, where you can barely see anything, cleared up in an instant.

「Uwaa」

What happened?

Ah, right.

I remember dealing with the turbid magic power mixed in there.

「The crack has been filled nicely. If the turbid magic power doesn’t leak out again, I’ve succeeded.」
