Academy Genius Craftsman chapter 5

01. A sword for you (5)

“I ran out of materials… ?”

“Eh.”

After school, I came to the teachers’ office to request materials for making a sword with Yoon Seo-hee after the funeral ceremony.

Mr. Na Yoo-rim is in charge of the 1st grade support department.

I’m the homeroom teacher of class 2, but because he’s in charge of my major, I see him often during his major classes.

She is always annoying and seems to be at odds with teacher Songha, who sits next to her, but she is a good teacher who thinks of her students in her own way.

I thought so.

“No, why? Aren’t they usually reserved for applications and requests for additional kids?”

“Leave it. But what if even that is gone?”

Submit creative assignments for the final practical work of the Support Division.

This creation task can be a sword like me, or an armor or shield, or a potion or auxiliary item.

And as is always the case with making anything, it’s very common that you’ll need more materials than you initially thought.

It’s fortunate that that’s all, and there are many cases where you have to recreate it from scratch due to an unexpected accident.

I thought I was crazy when the first time I made a mistake in heat treatment and the blade I had made split.

“Why is it all gone? You’ve never been like that before, have you?”

“Ummm… around lunchtime? The kids from class 1 rushed in and asked for more, so there are no magic ingots left. I made an additional request, but it will take another three or three days for it to come?”

“Three days….”

If I waited for it from now on, I would have forgotten half of the remaining week until my final performance.

“And about this ‘permission to use the smelting workshop after school’ that I applied for together, I don’t think this will work either. It’s already fully booked for about a week.”

“Yes?”

How many students use a smelting workshop, but is it full? Sword-making is already an unpopular field.

Of course, sword making isn’t the only area that needs refinement, but even so, the workshop isn’t fully booked. I have never heard of a full reservation for a smelting workshop after receiving support and training for half a year.

Yoon Seo-hee opened her mouth, hardening her expression to see if she was thinking about something.

“Are those from Class 1?”

Sensei Yurim looks at Yoon Seo-hee’s face once with a shy expression, and then looks at me with a slightly awkward expression.

Her expression looked as if she was asking, ‘Why is he here?’ Was it sudden since teacher Yurim, from her point of view, a student who was neither a student in her class nor a support department came to visit.

I didn’t answer anything and just shrugged her shoulders once, and Teacher Yurim cleared her throat lightly and answered Seohee Yoon’s words.

“Right. The kids in class 1 applied.”

“No, what if I accepted everything I applied for? How many kids need refinement in class 1?”

Sensei Yurim’s eyebrows curved in a new way at my question filled with frustration.

“So what? They are mine too. I wondered if the class 1 kids suddenly realized the aesthetics of metal. As a teacher in charge of the application department, there is no reason to refuse, right?”

I held back a sigh in front of the teacher.

I vaguely felt that I was a person who usually handled things carelessly, and I usually received a lot of help thanks to that, but I never thought I’d get caught up in my ankles like this today.

“It’s my fault. Hyunwoo Lee I didn’t know he could hit the ball so fast. I should have been more careful.”

Yoon Seo-hee spoke in a subdued voice as if suppressing her anger.

Her clenched fists trembled slightly.

I couldn’t agree with that. It wasn’t Yoon Seo-hee’s fault. Her problem was Lee Hyeon-woo, who tried to sabotage her in all sorts of despicable ways.

I felt annoyed and angry at the guy named Hyunwoo Lee, whom I had never seen before.

“I don’t know what happened… I’m not thinking either. In preparation for such a case, can I apply for the 2nd and 3rd grade workshops?”

“When can I use that?”

“Well, let’s see…” .”

School Yurim looks into the monitor and clicks the mouse a few times as if checking the schedule.

“Because there is a backlog of reservations… After three days, you can use it for two hours a day.”

Three days later. That’s only 2 hours a day. If you start like that, it’s too late. Can never be on time

“How do I do it? After all, it’s just a way to buy used….”

“No, it’s okay. There is a way.”

Yes, there is a way to everything. I haven’t done anything yet, so I can’t quit already. It is not too late to give up if you try everything you can and do it at the end.

“Sir Yurim, let’s go. Please discard the application. Thanked.”

“Thank you.”

“Huh? Uhh… Do you go in carefully?”

I scrapped some plans in my head.

Is that the only way? I would go round a bit, but I had no other means.

Just as I was about to leave the teachers’ room with Yoon Seo-hee, the door opened on the other side and a huge wall blocked my view.

“Hmm?”

Homeroom teacher for 1st grade class. In charge of combat.

The person who opened the door and tried to enter was Mr. Park Jin-hoo. Because of her broad shoulders and bear-like body, she thought for a moment that she was not a person but a wall. She always thought, but she was a colossal intimidation.

“Hello, sir.”

“Yoon Seo-hee. And… This is Kim Ijin.”

You know me?

Yoon Seo-hee says that she takes a combat course, but I am neither a Class 1 student nor a combat major. So it was somewhat surprising that the teacher knew my name.

I was surprised, but I didn’t have time to worry about such things right now. My head was filled with only how to make Yoon Seo-hee’s sword.

She moved her seat so that the teacher could pass, and Mr. Park Jin-hoo nodded her head and entered her office.

“Kim Yi-jin.”

As we were about to leave the teachers’ room, I turned my head to hear a heavy voice calling me from behind.

“Yes?”

“Aren’t you going to do it with your ex?”

It was a sudden question.

A criminal record? I realized that it was the story about the battle and criminal record that Teacher Songha recommended to me yesterday.

It seemed out of the blue for Park Jin-hoo to say that, but my answer was the same because I was already determined.

“Yes. I like making swords.”

“… Right. I get it.”

And as if that was all she had to say, Park Jin-hoo returned to her seat. I looked at the back for a while and then left the classroom.

“Is there really a way?”

“Yes. Let’s go out I’ll tell you as we go.”

It was already long after the closing ceremony, and the inside of the school was quiet, and we walked down the quiet hallway with no one around.

“Don’t worry about making it. My house is a workshop. If school doesn’t work, you can make it at home.”

“Oh, really? Jackpot. Then, can we just get the ingredients?”

“Right.”

The problem is that if you want to buy magic ingots, you don’t even have enough student pocket money. Even the cheapest grade 4 magic steel, when grams go over to kilograms, the price jumps by tens or millions of won.

This is because the magic stone itself, which is the core material of magic steel, is very expensive, and magic steel is not only used for weapons.

Nowadays, magic steel is used in most products that use mana as a power source, which is called new material energy. It was only at the level of an academy student that he could use the expensive magic steel without worrying about money.

But if you can’t get help from the academy, you have no choice but to run outside.

“Kim Yi-jin, maybe you.”

“Huh?”

While walking down her hallway, Yoon Seo-hee suddenly stopped her steps.

I was walking one step ahead, but belatedly stopped and looked back.

“You’re not going to buy it with your money, are you?”

“What?”

“If you think so, stop. I don’t want to bother you that much.”

Ever since I started talking about the kids in class 1, she didn’t like her expression. Maybe it’s because she was just trying to do something, but her ankle was caught in an unexpected way.

Yoon Seo-hee was looking out the window as she turned her gaze to me with a displeased look on her face just like when we first met.

But for some reason, I wondered if the expression on her face wasn’t meant to hide her nervousness and anxiety.

“I am so grateful for all of your hard work right now. But I don’t want to put a burden on you anymore, so I just don’t make it….”

“No, wait.”

I felt the need to correct her misunderstanding first.

“It’s not like that. I never intended to live in the first place. Where do I get the money to buy it?”

“Really?”

“Uh. There are other ways to get materials without buying them. Rather, I am going to need you very much from now on.”

“… Yes?”

Yoon Seo-hee’s hardened expression softened when he said that he needed your help. Did she unilaterally consider the fact that she was getting help as a burden in her heart?

“In that case… What can I help you with?”

“Work hard.”

“Work hard?”

I pointed out the window. Even though the dismissal time had passed, the early summer sky in June was still blue and clear.

“I am going to the Han River from now on. Did you bring your gym clothes?”

On the outskirts of the academy, we were standing on the riverside where the sun was still beating down.

The two of them changed into gym clothes and held a stick with a large magnet in one hand.

The Han River seen from the sandy beach is very beautiful, but unfortunately, we are not here to go on a date with the Han River.

“Come on, let’s use some strength.”

Now it was time for exciting iron sand harvesting.
